Thousands of homecoming and prom stories shared and questions aswered since 2005.
Do you have plans of hiring a driver for your prom night proceedings? Have you weighed out the pros of actually having a hired-hand to escort you around post-prom? It may sound like an extracurricular activity that you can do without, but when push comes to shove, it is actually in your best interests to have someone as your back-up. Many high school students actually group-up to hire a limousine service as an after prom escort, while others pick straws to see who borrows their parents Hummer; no matter how you travel it is safer to have a driver for your post-prom activities rather than being at the will of others.
If you are planning to use a friend's vehicle to cruise in it is best to ride with friends that you trust. Even though a professional driver may cost extra it is equally safer to hire a driver than be dependent upon the whim of others. People's plans change and because of this you may be more susceptible to being left behind, losing your friends, or just plain getting stuck in an unfamiliar area. Even if you do not shoot for the limo, having a multi-hour taxi at your service is better than being left to the care of fellow teenagers. If not just for the accident clause then keep a driver in mind for the sake of the unknown.
There are many events that are occurring post-prom and if you, and your friends, end up in an uncomfortable situation then you should at least have the option of leaving if/when that time arises. If you have no driver, or worst of all, no car access at all, then you are at the mercy of whoever is willing to drive you, and that is if you are lucky enough to find someone. It is possible to get a ride somewhere after the prom, but there are never any guarantees that your ride will remain the entire night, or that they will not leave without accidentally forgetting that you were their original ride. Anything is possible and it is always easier to be prepared than it is to be stuck. Even in the age of cell phones, not everyone is equipped, and that leaves even bigger gaps in the possible plan mishaps; so be cautious, try to work out a plan months in advance, and set definite reservations that include confirmation numbers and car information; never set an evening rental (taxi, limo, rental car) without confirmation information or a set description of the car, its seating capacity, and the driver options. Be safe, not sorry.
