Conceiving the most ethereal night of high school life is oft-intimidating task for faculty members. They can truly force a fit, if only for not feeling the pulse of students. To make matters worse, a certain gap makes generations lock horns.
Better then, to leave the prom night planning to the youngsters, as many schools do. Granted the intended prom night works along with school policies, students can have a ball out of it.
Before anything, students have to organize a prom committee. Even in a more autonomous setup, there is still some kind of hierarchy to follow. At the top of the pecking order is the prom night chairperson, accompanied by a certain vice-chairperson. Under his or her behest are a secretary and a treasurer. Nevertheless, the prom committee's top line may work closely with a faculty member who foresees decisions and a PTA liaison.
The prom committee is further segregated into sub-committees, in which students can sign up to work on a specific area of prom night planning. For instance, there is the sub-committee designated to hire the entities that will provide music for the prom night.
Among the sub-committees, a site coordination committee is crucial too. Their job is picking out where the prom is to be held, reserving it and insuring proper parking.
First and foremost, the prom committee carries the burden of setting a prom budget and finding means to defray the expenses. To these ends, a prom committee may embark on a prom fundraiser to collect money.
Throughout the year these fundraisers are scattered. Often practiced are flower sales at Christmas, Easter, and Valentine's Day. Prom committees also rack up funds by way of sponsorship of holiday dances, Sadie Hawkins Dances, Valentine Dances, and other events throughout the school year. Another oft-repeated idea is sponsoring the Senior Class Panoramic Photograph and then selling copies to the class members.
Setting a date for the main event, as well as clearing it with the school administration is also part and parcel of a prom night committee.
In order to set the year apart from the others, choosing a prom theme is in order. The prom committee may have to hold a contest scouring for the theme or else designate a committee for it. With or without a theme, prom night planning almost always delegates a subcommittee in charge of preparing the decorations.
In prom night planning, somebody has to be responsible for the provision of music. As the committee deems fit, a DJ or a live band may be hired.
It is also imperative for the prom committee to confirm the dinner arrangements with the caterer, on whether it will be sit-down, buffet or so.
Somebody also has got to book a photographer, one way or another. Wise prom night planning moreover asks for portfolios and references before reaching a decision.
As for the all-important holding of the Royal Court, the prom night planners involved must purchase tiaras, crowns, and royal scepters for Prom King and Prom Queen. The prom committee furthermore organizes the method and balloting that will designate the royal court.
Usually there is also a subcommittee for the clean-up after the event, as much as there is for prom favors.
