If you want to make sure that everything runs smoothly on prom night, you need to work in advance to make the right preparations. Prom night might come and go in a hurry, but those few hours of fun and excitement require months of phone calls, shopping, bookings, and more. You will get a small taste of what a bride-to-be goes through before a wedding.
Four Months to Go
About four months before prom, you need to start making a logical and organized checklist. Sit down and think about what you need to do to prepare yourself for the big day. Consider the prom costs involved. Plan a budget. Remember, possible expenses include your prom suit or tuxedo rental or purchase, the corsage for your date, tickets, and more. You might realize that you need to save some money for all the expenses that are to come your way. If you think you may not have enough funds, start putting some money aside. Ask your parents for help, if need be. Avoid spending your extra money on things you don’t really need. Do it for prom night. Further, if you have a potential prom date in your mind, ask her! You never know who might get to her before you, so make your move before she’s taken.
Three Months to Go
Around three Months before the date, ask your friends about prom night transportation. Will one of them be driving? Will they be renting a limousine? A good idea would be to form a group and rent a limousine. This way you could divide the costs among yourselves. If you will be having dinner before prom, think of restaurants. Further, get fitted for your suit or tuxedo. Ask your date (hopefully you’ve asked someone by now) about her prom dress color and accessorize according to it.
Five to Six Weeks to Go
Most of the big stuff should be ready at this point. The school will probably be selling prom tickets, so make your purchase. Before buying, discuss details with your date. Will you be treating her? Will she be buying her own ticket?
Two Weeks to Go
Prom night is almost here. You have a corsage to order, so call florists and find a good deal. Once you find a florist you feel comfortable with, order the corsage. It’s also a good time to get a haircut. Take a look at your checklist and confirm all the reservations you have made. Also, talk to your date and friends about the prom night plan.
Two Days to Go
With only a couple of days left, make sure you make time to relax. If you will be using your car for transportation, wash it. Make sure it is clean inside and out. Confirm dinner reservations again. You really cannot afford a mix-up on prom night. Talk to your date about the time you will go to her home to pick her up. Further, make sure you have enough money for all prom-related activities—expected and unexpected.
Day of the Prom
Be sure to make this a relaxing day. Visit the florist and get your date’s corsage. For the last time, call your date and confirm the time you will be picking her up. Also, talk to your friends about the night, as you see fit. Take a shower and get ready for an exciting night ahead. Besides these few things, you really do not need to do much.
