Prom Crowns Crowns are a girl's best friend!

Prom Crowns

Royalty need not come from some age-old bloodline sired in the most primordial of times. When it comes to proms, the monarchy could be elected, not least hold court amidst less-than noble people and tinsel.

Only when a prom crown perches atop each of their respective heads, is the reign of a prom queen and prom king fully-fledged. But their reigns are made all the more believable when the prom king crown or the prom queen crown is made of material other than fancy cutouts, at least. Consider, prom crowns made with clear crystal rhinestones for a characteristic effect.

Either way, the prom king crown is not the same as the prom queen crown. Truth be told, the queen does not wear a prom crown -- she wears a tiara. On the other hand, the prom crown is the appropriate headgear for the king (Unless, of course, you are watching the movie, "Erin Brockovich," where her "King" is crowned in wearing the Ms. Witchita tiara.).

Whereas the prom king crown has a base that is a full circle and is decorated all the way around, the tiara, which is lighter, does not have a full circle base. Typically the tiara is worn at an angle, while the prom king crown is worn on top of the head. Still, there are those called adjustable prom crowns. Although they have a round base like a crown, these prom crowns are flexible like tiaras, in that they can be adjusted for size. Like tiaras too, adjustable prom crowns do not have the metal and rhinestones all the way around it.

Finally, tiaras or prom queen crowns may come with either combs or bobby pin rings to help secure them to the hair.

Symbols of Power

Along with scepters, prom crowns symbolize a delegation of elusive power bestowed on those few and privileged students who are chosen. Organizers of the prom coronation should be fastidious about choosing the most convincing symbols of power, if they still want to win over more and more skeptics among the prom participants.

Choosing a prom king crown for instance involves considerations such as whether the base diameter fits all wearers. True enough, when properly selected the prom king's crown "takes the cake," as it is usually not adjustable. Picking the most appropriate fit should take into account one drawback: Prom crowns with small diameters -- under 5 inches -- could only be made to rest on top of the head. To be certain, larger diameter crowns, such as those over 6 inches, are a safe bet with prospective prom kings.

With prom queen crowns, you should take care to choose items that fit secure to your hair. For instance, prom queen crowns with combs or bobby pin pings may be considered.
