Classic Chic 50's Style

Take It Back... WAYYY Back!

The world of prom dress design is reinventing a style that stems from the looks and classic chic design of the 1950's. There is no better era to revisit than the time of Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn, and Grace Kelly.

There was air of grace in the 50's. A purity and elegance that we now wish to recapture in our taste of high-end fashion. What better way to show off the glitz and glamour of the on-screen fashion of the 50's than in today’s treasured prom gowns.

The main attraction and inspiration which comes from this time is the appeal of the ‘skinny’ dress. The dress that elongates any body type and makes for a wonderful full length gown. The other favored dimensions of 50's fashion is the always fashionable flared ankle effect. Take a full length body-hugging gown and add the gorgeous base flare which pulls the gowns length all the way to the floor and you have a timeless gown that has survived fashion critics for 50 years. This is the inspired on-screen look of the famous Audrey Hepburn. The high cut, thin strap black dress, form fitting, full length, flared base. The most amazing black dress.

This style can be incorporated with many colors, many textures and several different accessory options, but the basis for the dress pattern is still the same, and still just as beautiful.

The skinny dress design makes up the majority of 50's inspired gowns. Another attribute of this style can be seen in the reverse halter top design which brings the shoulder straps from beside the bosom then up and around the neck. This allows the lady to show off her chest and necklace while showing off the shoulders and full arm length. The halter top is also fashionable but with the added cuff-collar for a fifties flare. Pair this with a flared skirt design and you have a unique touch.

Who can forget the Marilyn Monroe inspired silk gown design. This fifties design is a classic indeed. The comfortable silk fabric embraces the neck with a thick, tied halter top design, the gorgeous waist-thick fabric belt, and flowing ankle-length full swing skirt design. Generally with an added center brooch to accent the crest of the bosom.

The fifties gave us so many inspirations in fashion that are not likely to fade.
