With all the warnings that are popping up in magazines, on the nightly news, and from your friendly neighborhood doctor regarding the sun's harmful rays, isn't it time to consider alternatives to get that luscious glow of summer? There is nothing wrong with enjoying your time in the sun, but you can have that wonderful bronze appeal, all while wearing your favorite sunblock.

It is amazing how we prepare for events like our prom. The manicure, pedicure, and most of all, the tan! This is a most important part of the prom preparation, isn't it? You want your skin to glow under that beautiful gown. It is a beautiful thing to have a gentle glow but with the new surge in warnings, is it really safe to do it the old fashioned way?

Do you pay to lie in tanning beds? Have you noticed the large warning stickers that are appearing on each of them? No? Whoa. They are big, gaudy, and they are true. You can easily contract skin cancer from the rays given off by the giant sun beds.

There is something that we find truly appealing about a nice tan body. And it's true. A beautiful tan can be not only attractive, but can also boost energy levels in the body and help to bring self confidence. I understand that energy and confidence are great things to have, but you can receive these benefits by moderating your sun exposure and by being smart and wearing sunscreen. You do not need full-blown exposure to reap these benefits.

So while you are pondering that sixty dollar membership to the tanning tower down the street consider your own health and whether it's worth it. The prom is a special night, but you'll have many special nights throughout your lifetime. As you age the sun will not be so kind and glorious to your skin. It will turn it to a leathery hide. So be really smart. Prepare for prom with tanning creams for your face and body. Keep it safe and healthy and your luscious wrinkle-free skin will be your aging benefit.
