When Prom Plans Go Awry

What Can Go Wrong Will Go Wrong

When your prom plans are set in stone there are no worries; you know things are going well, you are doing great and you are just ready for the big day to arrive. What happens, when out of the blue, something ensues and changes your plans all together? What then? Anything can happen. Your date can have an emergency and have to travel out of state. At the last minute your seamstress can cancel your alteration and leave you high and dry. You could even end up with a limousine reservation and no one left to help you fork the bill. There are a sea of possibilities, and a mountainous array of circumstances which can potentially leave you stuck. The one good thing about all of these potential possibilities is the fact that you can do your best to be prepared for a number of them.

Money as Insurance

You can't predict the future but you can swerve around the inevitable bad happening. Your first option and back-up plan for coverage is to get together with one of your good guy-friends (or even a girlfriend that you'd be willing to take to the prom as your 'date'; it happens!), plan a “coverage-date” with him, just in case the worst happens between you and your date, or him and his. This way you have a good plan for the two of you. Secondly, you should always have two seamstresses on call for the possibility that one may have to cancel for unknown reasons. Normally, alteration specialists are usually booked up at the same times, so having a back-up is a Must. Otherwise you may have to have a secondary dress on hand for the possibility of both seamstresses canceling (even though this seems highly unlikely you may want to consider the popularity, and demand, that is required of both seamstresses in order to make this decision).

For a third option and the most important of all, do not make reservations for any group on your personal credit card! This is absolutely insane and should never be considered. Even if your date doesn't ditch you, your alterations go off without a hitch, and you find yourself dancing the night away on prom night, you are still left with the potential of having your BFF's ditch you for some quiet-time with their dates. And no matter who your BFF's are, if they don't use the limo or the expensive dinner reservation you all agreed on, then they are assured to not help pay you back. So no matter where your evening is heading, always know, that making solid group-reservations with your (or your parents) personal credit means that you risk forking the entire bill alone. So be thrifty and smart and only pay your portion of any reservation. Always remember: Cash in hand means no back-down's later.
