Girls who just didn't make the Cut

If you’re looking forward to having the most magical night of your life in your upcoming prom, one of the things you’ll be wanting to do is to look good. There’s no question that only the best and most deserving lookers will even be acknowledged as a successful prom participant, much less as a possible aspirant for the prom queen of the night.

But that’s no easy task, and these photos prove it. In the effort to make an impact at the ball itself, plenty of girls have resorted to more outlandish dresses, shocking outfits and even gaudier makeup and jewelry. And if there’s one thing that’s never a great thing to see, it’s a badly dressed girl at the prom.

There’s more to it than Glamour

One of the biggest mistakes in choosing a dress for the prom is to think that the more controversial it is, the better it is. More often than not, that’s not even the case, and it’s even more likely to end up being a disaster wearing a dress designed to look like (or be!) a fruit garden than just, say, getting a nice and simple evening gown that’ll seem a bit too tame. There was even a gown that exposed a woman’s midriff once: needless to say, the skin color didn’t mix very well with the fabric’s dye.

Some people who do try to keep it simple end up going for the lowest bidder, since some things just aren’t meant to go together. Case in point: a chubby body and a tight-fitting gown. Your boobs won’t be the only part of you that’ll be popping out all over the place screaming, and moving will be a hellish ordeal to go through.

There’s also a big problem with over-accessorizing. Jewelry is well and good, but going overboard on the earrings, the armlets, and (even) the tiara can make you look dumb as well as unappetizing – it’s happened before. Overdoing the gimlets hanging from your body can either make you look dazzling – or it can give you the unflattering effect of Central Park’s Christmas Tree.
