When it comes to outfitting yourself for prom you may be surprised at how annoying it can be to choose the details. There are so many ways to dress, so many options, so many details that you can choose and so many ways that you can go that it can make your head spin. Even though the details can be endless there are just as many ways to simplify the decision-making process. One of the biggest accessories for prom is the new age fashion shawls. Also known as scarves, these sweet and very delicate pieces of material are used by nearly a third of all prom going ladies to cover their arms and shoulders. Sometimes the choice is made out of concern for the weather and other times it is oriented from the design of the dress. If you have considered a shawl and don't know what to do remember this: The choice is ultimately yours and you should not be depending on a designers sketch or a recommendation from a dress designer. You need to go with what you see as most comfortable and appropriate in your case.
Some women do bring a shawl with them as a back-up for strapless dresses and carry them around the wrists and wrapped around the waist. This is a delicate look but also confining. When you decide to dance the shawl has to be put down or held by someone else until you are done. They are great accent pieces even with dresses that have straps or sleeves. The shawl does not necessarily have to be held around the wrists, they can be tied loosely in front of you on your chest, but this look is more fashionable when the material length is extra long. You can purchase pre-sewn shawl's that are seamed and do not have open, loose-ends, and these are more convenient for evenings of dancing but their look is specific. You can also find shawls that are made to match your dress pattern and material.
Many dress designers offer this type of accessory for their evening dresses, this is generally an optional accent and can be purchased whether used or not. By doing this you can have a shawl that matches your dress to a T unless you have a solid color, or certain design already decided upon. Using a shawl can add a touch of class to your look and make it seamless, but if you prefer a sportier look a shawl may not be right for you.
