Prom Dress Colors

A Classic Look

No, I am not writing about mixed drinks. When it comes to the prom there are so many general dress selections and various cuts, styles, and names that it can get confusing at a certain point of it all. Cocktail dresses can also be called cocktail gowns; these beautiful and sophisticated dress cuts differ in length and style but can be worn to, not only cocktail parties, but also semi-formal occasions such as proms. The look and feel of cocktail dresses are based on form and function and can be enjoyed for hours while still remaining comfortable. The sizes, shapes, and lengths of these dresses vary widely and that should be considered by ladies planning to search in this selection of gowns. As with any other style of dress most women prefer the particular color of black when choosing cocktail dresses for formal wear, hence the saying the little black dress. Although the favored color is black that does not limit the selection that is abundantly available to you.

Which Side of the Knee?

Designers are in no way limited to one look or feel. The colors range across the spectrum like a rainbow and are designed with versatility in mind. Designers know that there are women with varied tastes purchasing their gowns and so they are created without bias. The usual lengths of currently produced cocktails are dependent upon the trends of that moment and the tastes of the season. For example, Fall fashions will have longer cuts and lengths for a warmer feel, and may even be created with a throw for the shoulders; while Summer fashions are far less covering and require much less fabric. Longer cut cocktail dresses are great for cooler weather; there are separate names for each differing cut. The ballerina length cocktail flows all the way to the ankle and is only slightly different from regular evening dresses; subtle variations may not be too apparent but even though ankle-length cocktail dresses are called evening dresses there is a difference between these and infamous evening gowns. A cocktail dress which is two inches above the ankle is a separate cut all together; these are called tea length cocktail dresses and they are in their own category.

Although most cocktails range from above the knee to just below the knee, a more elegant feel can be found in a longer cut. No matter what particular cut you prefer the materials are in close range and are all comfortable and elegant. Satin, silk, and even and outer or under layer of chiffon can be found on certain styles. Although the choices in cocktail gowns are many they are all beautifully flowing, classy, and fabulous dresses that are perfect if you want to make a great prom-impression.
