Homecoming celebrations are just a wink away and this means that the countdown is soon to begin. If you've been planning your attire for a while then good for you! Last minute shoppers may hit the advantageous sale prices but it is time (and time alone) that allow you to create and envision all of the details that will make the night spectacular. When planning ahead is not an option you may lose those precious 'strokes of genius' that can only come from preparation. It may seem unrealistic to plan ahead but even with a hectic class schedule and excess homework clouding your vision it only takes a few simple steps to create the time you so desperately needed.
Start off with a student planner. You do not need an elaborate spread- a simple seasonal planner will do. If you are creative you can print off a perfectly personalized version from your PC. The perfect option would be to integrate your homecoming plans into your current school planner. All in all, depending on your personal budget, you are looking for a six week planner. Some students will need more or less time depending on the finances surrounding the issue. If there you are covering the expenses yourself be sure to give yourself plenty of extra time (you will need to break down your expenses into increments over time which can cause trouble if not planned correctly).
For your first week you will want to set your major deadlines in advance. Begin with your major expenses such as your dress/tux, stylist costs, transportation needs (limo), and even after-party fees. It is becoming more common for schools to create extended venue hours to accommodate extra activities which can cost students more so be aware of any additional school costs. By looking at all of your expenses up front you can know your limits and work accordingly toward your goal.
Once your expense goals are set and you know what costs will be due on what days then you begin 'tweaking'. Week two thru three of your planning can be used to round up loose financial ends. If you over-estimated any costs this is your time to barter. Use your second week to schedule all arrangements- rental tux, limo service, salon visit, manicure/pedicure appointment, etc. Use the third-fourth weeks to have your purchased/rented outfits sized or fitted. Put down all deposits on rented items in this time period as well. The real countdown begins at the end of the fifth week. If you have set your plans correctly then this week will flow smoothly. Your appointments will not be crammed together, your dress will fit perfectly, and the limo will arrive right on time. Taking the time to plan ahead will always pay off.
