Go all-out or go home. Is this your motto? Are you looking forward to the Homecoming celebration just so you can show off your unique style? Punk-style offers an elaborate palette of color, prints, and flare. This eclectic outlet is a cult-fave-style for thousands of girls- and yes- those same girls will be attending homecoming celebrations. Here are few tips, tricks, and hints for those who want to show off their eccentric tastes while still possessing a feminine edge of style.
There are similar trends that emerge in formal-punk fashion. The general census found in color selections are on opposite ends of the color spectrum. If you are shooting for punk you will want to begin your search by pin-pointing either the most basic of neutrals or the brightest of bright colors. By neutrals I do not mean beige (unless paired with another color); white, black, or grays. The brightest of brights can be found in or around the neon spectrum; pinks, yellows, oranges, greens, and sometimes blues. The exception can be found in metallic and tartan fabrics. The dress cut/style will boil down to your personal preferences but be wary of too many ruffles and an overly extended skirt length. If you want 'poof' without ruffles go for a dress with a fitted top/bosom and a ballerina skirt (usually made from layers of organza). And beware of dresses with ankle length skirts; try a mini, below the knee, or thigh length instead.
Accessorizing is the most fun you will have while planning your outfit. The choices and possibilities make it overly entertaining to create. The personalized touches are what put the punk in punk-style. Try buying a yard of your favorite material (the one with pink skull's will do) and create a few fabric flowers to adorn your bust or hemline. If your dress is a neutral shade look for a pair of black, elbow length organza gloves to accent your attire. If you refuse to wear a flower on your bust then trade up for a few band and slogan pins instead. Leggings are a great option as well. You can find leggings with designs and colors varying from stripes, to metallic's, to floral lace and even cartoon prints- so go crazy. Don't forget: you can't go wrong with original fishnet stockings and a few conveniently placed rips as long as you are pairing your dress with a nice set of Converse sneakers. Yes, sneakers. Find a low-cut, flat footed pair of “skater shoes” that matches one color from your outfit. And last but not least don't forget the temporary hair color.
