Do you think Lolita dresses are ok for prom?

Name: Sabrina | Date: December 13, 2007, 1:36 pm
I have seen some cute Japanese lolita style dresses on the net and I love them and prom's a great excuse for buying one, since they're kinda expensive, but I'll get to wear my dress all the time after prom, which is good, but do you think I should go more formal and get a long draping ball gown or is lolita ok?

Name: Nikkie | Date: December 29, 2007, 7:33 pmI think it's alright, if you got a longer one... Go more like... Mana from Malice Mizer than 3 year old girl. Name: Lily | Date: December 31, 2007, 1:01 pmI think you should do some (okay, a lot of) research on lolita fashion, especially if you're still new. Personally, I think it would be lovely and something new than the usual JC penney dresses. There are a lot of styles of Lolita. Gothic might be a little hard to pull off at an event such as prom. If you really want to do so, but don't have enough money, I suggest searching the egl livejournal community and egl_comm_sales for info and 2nd hand lolita items. Commission stores such as In the Starlight can make lolita items (they have a store too). If you want to ask ITS, ask for good material (like good lace, you don't want cheap scratchy lace). Also, Anna House Fashions is another alternative if you want to go sweet or classic. It's in Hong Kong dollars. From their reviews, the materials they use is of great quality. The only thing you want to worry about is overseas shipping. So if you want to shop there, do it a few weeks before prom season. Good Luck. In most cases, lolita is too short and cutesy for my taste for a formal event. But if you try for a long or high-low dress with all the lacy and pretty elements in it, I'm sure it would work great. ^^Name: talya | Date: January 30, 2008, 3:17 pmi have a friend who wants to do the same thing but for prom i think you should go as a casual lolita actually i\'m not going to say that take lily\'s advice and do research then when you know what you want do it Name: Delaura | Date: February 1, 2008, 11:33 pmIv'e been thinking the same thing! Me and me besties are going to wear sweet lolita princess dresses. (they are long ones) Maybe think about going conservative with the big bows.Name: Trina | Date: February 20, 2008, 8:12 pmI would wear a lolita dress to prom! I love my lolita dresses. it is totally worth it to buy them, even though they are very expensive.Name: Loki | Date: March 4, 2008, 3:22 pmI would! Although for a prom maybe I'd wear a bit more a "mature" lolita dress ((aka classic lolita, or Aristocrat)) If you want more of an idea, I have a picture of a lolita dress similar to one my friend wore a couple years ago. http://rakuen.trauma-radio.net/catalog/dresses/409.html Go for it!Name: Amelia Boyd | Date: March 7, 2008, 10:21 pmSure, go for it! This is just me because I have outrageous standards, but I would make it myself rather than buy it on the net. For one thing, those dresses cost far more than what they're actually worth. Also, I don't like how the skirt layers are often sewn together. Or, if you'd prefer to shop around, all of the following sites sell to North America: cosmates.jp http://www.metamorphose.gr.jp/english/index.html http://www.babyssb.co.jp/ http://www.inthestarlight.com/index.htm http://www.myimportstore.com/index_Section_27.htm Anyways, if you go for the lolita look, for goodness sake, don't forget to get a really good, thick tulle underskirt. Just in case, here are some sites that I've found that sell nice gothic-lolita-looking jewelry: http://www.nighteshade.com/index.htm http://www.the-black-angel.com/index1.html http://www.decarabia.co.uk/
