Ok everyone has different opinions on what to wear alot of people say wear just long dresses and thats it don't be bold or anything and there's absolutely NOTHING wrong with that let me say that. Last year I went to the Marine Corps Birthday Ball and let me tell you something stop stressing so much!!!! Haha I was so worried about every little detail. Last year I wore an above the knee dress it was bubbled out at the bottom and a solid color, but there were A LOT of ladies that wore different length dresses. Keep in mind that most of the balls are near the end of the year so you'll want to be warm. I saw so many women who had on beads, sequins, and very colorful dresses. Now yes some women looked downright hookerish but thats them. If your man loves your dress and he would be proud to be with you and your comfortable then thats all that matters :) Wear what you want to and yes its good to try and match them a little bit or at least try to stay in the color scheme and I strongly suggest comfortable shoes. Most of the couples were drunk by the time the ceremony actually started because of cocktail hour! We're 19 so we didn't drink, but just do what makes you comfortable because at the end of the night thats all that matters is how you represented your man and that you had fun :). Now I will say this some units are more strict than others, some have very strict requirements and some are more laid back, ours was definitely laid back because the Captains wife had on a very ummm revealing dress, but she loved it and so did he! And remember have fun! Hoped this helped and I'm definitely lookin foward to this year :)

I've been stressing about what to wear to a military formal for the last week. I've been told this is not a ball - it's a welcome back formal. I think I've decided on a floor length strapless black gown that has a little poof to the skirt in the form of black tulle peeking out and some bead work - despite the "no beadwork" comments. It's sprinkled...not covered. Anyone know what if there's a different dress code for a "welcome back formal" vs. a ball?Name: Serena | Date: October 10, 2010, 11:53 amHi Ladies, I must say this is the best source of advice on what to wear that I've found yet. Christin your comment is great, thanks so much. I'm attending the Canadian Navy Centennial ball here in Victoria British Columbia and I've opted for this dress http://www.betseyjohnson.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4363707 as it's fun, yet I felt the colours and style balances the length and still makes it "formal" as required. I've got my fave ruffly black heels which are very comfy (thanks to all who recommend that) and now just need a purse/clutch. If anyone can give an opinion on if this is still proper it's greatly appreciated. Name: Maria | Date: October 27, 2010, 1:10 amThank you guys for all the advice. I was just about to buy a dress & then I researched some.. & I read a website where it scared me when they said not to look sexy, because the fellow wives would frown upon it. LOL, but thanx to Christin.. I think I’m just gonna go for it! Pls tell me what you guys think of the dress! https://www.dillards.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=301&catalogId=301&productId=502402921 I think it might be too much.. but you only live once right?Name: Nicky | Date: November 24, 2010, 11:01 amim attending my first army christmas ball in 2 weeks and i keep looking at my dress and woundering if its going to be ok... all i was told was it had to be below the knee and floor lenght would be best...please help !! http://www.janenorman.co.uk/fcp/product/buy-fashion-look-fabulous/occasion-dresses/fan-bust-embellished-maxi-dress/9570?colour=blueName: Nicky | Date: November 24, 2010, 11:05 amim attending my first army christmas ball in 2 weeks and i keep looking at my dress and woundering if its going to be ok... all i was told was it had to be below the knee and floor lenght would be best...please help !! http://www.janenorman.co.uk/fcp/product/buy-fashion-look-fabulous/occasion-dresses/fan-bust-embellished-maxi-dress/9570?colour=blueName: GUCCIshoes | Date: November 25, 2010, 8:12 am Women Christian Audigier Hoody Women Gucci Jeans Discount Women Christian Audigier Jeans Burberry Jackets wholesale Louis Vuitton Coat Fashion Dolce Gabbana Handbags Chanel Handbags accept paypal Dr Dre Headphones Replica Skull Candy Headphones Brand Mascara Juicy necklace Name: Anna | Date: November 30, 2010, 9:07 amHey, I have a Military Ball Coming up on Dec. 4.... the appropiate dress i believe is floor length or maybe a little past the knees, anything shorter than that just shows you have no respect for yourself or the people around you, but i really hope all of you have wonderful times at the ball, it really is a good way to hang out, and even to be on a date haha you're never alone and your significant other gets to meet the people you love hanging with!!!! -Anna-Name: Lori Peavler | Date: December 8, 2010, 6:35 pmConcerning the Military Ball function, is it really considered a Ball or a Black Tie Affairt
