Name: USMCwife | Date: September 12, 2008, 5:38 pmAs a military wife I've been to plenty of balls...you need to wear something that is floor length, classic, and tastefull. It does not need to be a full skirt type of gown (I'd recommend stearing clear of that). Most importantly, wear something you'll be comfortable in! :) Have fun and remember you don't need to go over the top. (Black, navy blue, red, white, and olive are all great colors for military balls)Name: amber spray | Date: October 26, 2009, 3:08 pmthis is my frist year of jrotc . i dont know what to wear at all. i saw a long white dress at a shop. and my father is hard about getting my nails done what should i do???Name: Mrs. Reynolds | Date: October 29, 2009, 9:18 amI am a military spouse. I recently attended my first ball and we have another one coming up soon. For my first one I went out and bought a beautiful blue floor lentgh gown. It was very simple. I wore high heel shoes, which was a BIG mistake. We get there and we have to stand in the foyer for about 2 hours...keep in my mind we had 3 bars in the foyer with us. By the time we got to go sit everyone at our table was DRUNK!! I mean like totally sh*t faced!! My husband and I ate and then left. It wasn't a very good experience. We're trying again this month, but I am not going all out like I did before. I am simply wearing a knee length pearl white dress and simple shoes, I will have my hair fixed, but nothing too fancy. At my first ball, there were a ton of women with short dresses....so if you want to wear a short dress...DO IT!!! People from the outside (non-military) don't know how a military ball is....they just hear ball and think "floor lenght ball gowns". Wear whatever you want hun, by the end of the night more than half of the people there, ladies and gents, will be so drunk they won't even remember if you were even there or not. Name: amber spray | Date: October 29, 2009, 2:23 pmi dont know what color to wear at all. my dad dont have alot of money . what should i do?Name: Anthoni | Date: November 2, 2009, 7:49 pmTea-length to floor-length is best; almost any solid colour with maybe one accent colour, but not too outrageous (I wouldn't do orange or purple with green - think "elegant"). For not a lot of money, thrift stores or consignment shops can be great, although you may have to do some looking. They usually get 'new' stuff in every few days. I've found beautiful gowns for $8 to $40.Name: Janny | Date: November 4, 2009, 4:13 amhttp://www.bebe.com/bebe-Strapless-Brocade-Bubble-Dress/dp/B002ATD35S?asinSearchPageIndex=43&field_availability=0&field_browse=675950011&field_launch-date=-1y&id=bebe%20Strapless%20Brocade%20Bubble%20Dress&ie=UTF8&navAsinList=B0028F3MP0%2CB0028F7E90%2CB0028EZSUI%2CB002AWZ1ZA%2CB00226EDKI%2CB00243QT88%2CB001R4NHHQ%2CB001UWZJWG%2CB002268FPM%2CB0027QLW2U%2CB0028YY9B2%2CB0029437V4%2CB001VROPT8%2CB001UBWNTO%2CB002F7P23G%2CB0029ZYO2O%2CB00293ZHWW%2CB0022685ES%2CB002A00ROW%2CB00243OQO2%2CB002BO5TKO%2CB002AWZ69Q%2CB0027QLT14%2CB002DBS0C4%2CB0029ZWW4Q%2CB0024QWI3K%2CB0025L3HRU%2CB0029S37EM%2CB001UNNQ52%2CB002APQ6Y2%2CB00288XWKC%2CB002AWXBKC%2CB002D6Y8EI%2CB002AWTWJ6%2CB002995IRU%2CB001URL59C%2CB0029415T0%2CB002BIZ5WC%2CB002ATD35S%2CB0028I84C8%2CB00288ZWIC%2CB001URN63K%2CB00243QXO8%2CB0022Q4402%2CB00265N9D2%2CB00265JUYE%2CB00243R1GC%2CB0027DK3MS%2CB001OYS8W8%2CB001VG6RHM%2CB0024QY2T8&navAsinListIndex=5&node=675950011&pf_rd_i=675950011&pf_rd_m=A2FMOXN01TSNYY&pf_rd_p=482133391&pf_rd_r=13KNT6C2ZW70CTVEQKEC&pf_rd_s=search-results&pf_rd_t=101&ref=search_results_44&searchBinNameList=null&searchNodeID=675950011&searchPage=1&searchRank=-custom-rank&searchSize=100&store=core&extid=af_k76919TheFind%2C%20Inc. Is this dress to short...not formal enough? I have been recieveing different feedback...some say short is okay...and the bubble dress is okay...others say noName: UrbanGoddeses | Date: November 13, 2009, 5:57 pmTo Janny: I do not think that dress is appropriate at all for a military ball. Great for a New Years Eve party maybe... Stick with tea length dresses -just below the knees- or long dresses. Many military wives I've known go to a Davids Bridal sale on bridesmaids dresses and find them anywhere from $20-100. Others tell me they've gone to JCPenneys, or Dillards for their evening gowns. Try to steer clear from too much flesh showing - you are there representing not only yourself but your boyfriend/fiance/husband. Mess Dress, Formal Blues? This will tell you what dress to purchase. With Mess Dress (Tuxedo type uniform), get something very classy. Knee length to floor length (depends on your legs). Don't have to go all out crinolines and tulle. If your date is wearing formal blues (normal blues uniform with dressy shirt), then dress it down also. Best places to shop would be JCPenney, Kohls, TJ Maxx. Or hit the clearance rack at the local bridal shop.
