While the color, style, and design of your outfits are important, choosing the best accessories is what really sets your style apart from others. In fact, you can create a completely new outfit with just a few simple accessories. There are many different accessories you can consider, such as broaches, scarves and jewelry. Choosing the perfect accessories for your look will depend, in large part, on the type of dress you’re wearing and the event you’ll be attending. Consider the following tips on how to dress up your look with accessories.
Broaches and Pins Are Great Accessories
Broaches and pins can be wonderful accessories for a wide range of outfits and outings. You can choose from traditional, jewel-encrusted styles, or go with a more unique style, such as a handkerchief broach or pin. These items can be used to draw attention away from the lower part of the body as well – if you pin a flashy broach on your lapel or chest, very few people will remember what you were wearing below that point. Use these items when you’re trying to distract attention away from your hips or waist.
Scarves and Wraps Are Wonderful Accent Pieces
There are also many dress styles that look great when worn with a scarf or wrap. Scarves can be used in a number of ways – for example, you can wrap a coordinating silk scarf around your neck for an extra embellishment. You could also use a scarf as a hair accessory or belt. Many popular styles this year call for long scarf belts that hang down the left side. Use one with a fringe end and you’re sure to get compliments. Wraps can also be a great addition to a strapless or spaghetti strap dress – wear the piece draped behind your back, rather than over your shoulders, to make a true fashion statement.
Necklaces Are a Must
Unless you’re wearing a scarf, you definitely need a necklace to go with your dress. For a strapless dress, consider a cascading set that ends about three inches below the base of the neck. On the other hand, for a collared dress, a choker may be a good bet. If your dress style will be a basic, un-collared version, you might choose long, multiple strand necklaces. However, whatever you choose, make sure the style you choose fits well with the rest of your outfit. For example, if you’re wearing a silver sequined dress, a gold chain won’t match as well a silver-toned piece.
Use Earrings to Accessorize Your Outfit
There are probably as many earring styles now as there are dress styles. However, some combinations work better than others. If you’ll be wearing a strapless dress and pulling your hair up, think long and dangly. For a collared dress, you might consider hoops or studs. Make sure that your earrings coordinate with any other jewelry pieces you’ll be wearing. For example, if you’re wearing sapphires in your necklace, do the same in your earrings.
