Look Out for the High Low!

One look that has taken prom-goers by storm in 2010 is riding the tide through to the 2011 prom season; the high low. This is an amazing creation of many names and many looks. Whether it is chiffon or taffeta, the over layer (or ski) creates an amazing display. The look of a crisp mini paired with a train; from the front these gowns look like a combination of cocktail and cloak but from the rear most designs look like a uniformed, flowing maxi.

Most designers offer high low dresses with a removable over layer, thus converting your gown into a cocktail dress. Even with a non-detachable ski this design is hands-down the most creative of the year. With top prom gown designers such as Jovani and Tony Bowls on the creative bandwagon the options are plentiful.

High Low is the Way to Go!

The creative fusions of the gown bring color and pattern to life. The design of the gown offers many creative alternatives. The bodice and bust can carry patterns independent of the over layer. The mélange of two or more colors/patterns in one gown can be easily obtained with this design. Finding the right pattern/colors will be the hardest part of choosing a high low dress. The combinations are nearly endless. You can find anything from animal prints and abstracts to rhinestones and ruffles. Some designs have fringe while others have organza trim and the detail are of no consequence. Many high low dresses even offer delicate details such as rhinestone bodices or hand-designed trim. Even with all of these extras there are still more options available, not to mention the possibilities of the dress' cut. Straps, strapless, one-shoulder, off-the-shoulder, halter; these are all high low dress options which can be found.

As the high low dress trend continues to grow in 2011 there will be more options available to us as other designers join in. Right now the dress is still in its infancy, which is a good thing for trend-setters, and as the expansion continues the dress will evolve with designer interpretation.
