Since we were little girls we have seen characters like Cinderella, Belle and even Ariel in our favorite stories prancing and dancing around in sweeping, flowing dresses. We generally think of wedding or ballroom dresses when speaking of 'flowing' gowns, but the dynamic of elegance has been altered over the past few years and it is easier than ever to find gowns to fit your own personal tastes while still portraying sophistication. Your prom staples will reflect your personal anthem and the elegance of a flowing gown can bring out the inner princess in every girl.

There are countless numbers of flowing dress designs; the commonality being only the skirt length. It is especially nice to know that no matter the design of the dress there are always cost effective options when buying a long gown. All dress designers offer a long-gown option which is great for every price range. Some designs are called 'maxi' dresses- but be aware that not all maxi's are long- but this is a good starting point for your search.

An Emerging Trend

There is a noticeable trend in halter maxi's extending into upcoming seasons. The halter is a classic but with the added train you will look dazzling. This is a very common style but the differences in patterns/materials can help you create a unique look for prom night. Spaghetti straps are also a regular staple for many prom-goers wearing maxi-gowns. Spaghetti's are not all the same. Even though the straps are identical on these gowns the cut of the top can widely vary. You can have a strapless-cut top but with the added support of spaghetti's; V-cut dresses can also display spaghetti's. Choosing a spaghetti is fairly dependant on your bust size. With a larger bust it is a good idea to try an empire cut halter as opposed to the spaghetti. The straps of the empire cut are thicker and give more support.

With longer maxi's you not only choose your favorite top-design but the length of the maxi is also debatable. From mid-calf to floor-length it is up to you to decide whether you want to show off those new pumps or not. So this year- go with the flow.
